About This Role

In this role, you'll operate a rear load garbage truck along designated routes throughout the Hood River area, collecting waste from residential and commercial customers Monday through Friday, 6am to 2:30pm. Your day involves safely maneuvering the truck, reading route sheets, performing pre-trip vehicle inspections, and using hydraulic controls to load and dispose of refuse—all while maintaining courteous interactions with customers. This is physically demanding work that requires lifting over 50 pounds regularly, often working independently in varying weather conditions. You'll need a valid Class B CDL with air brakes endorsement and at least one year of driving experience, though waste industry background is preferred but not required. Hood River Garbage, a Waste Connections Company, is looking for a reliable and motivated Rear Load Garbage Truck Driver to join our team in Hood River, OR.

Previous waste industry experience is a big plus—but not required.

We’re happy to train the right person!

The schedule is Monday–Friday, from 6am-2:30pm, depending on route.

The starting pay $36.59/hr, with an increase to $37.87/hr after a 90-day review.

Duties and Responsibilities: Safely operate a garbage truck on designated routes to collect solid waste.

Waste experience is preferred but not required.

Read route sheets and service each customer listed or assigned by the dispatcher.

Perform routine inspections and maintenance on vehicles, including checking fluids, safety equipment, and tires.

Perform a physically demanding job, including loading and unloading, sometimes without assistance.

Operate hydraulic hand controls to lift and load refuse and dispose of trash at designated facilities.

Interact courteously with customers and perform other miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort: Requires extensive physical activity, including heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling objects over 50 pounds.

Work environment involves exposure to physical risks, such as moving mechanical parts, requiring basic safety precautions.

Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including frequent wet and/or humid environments, as well as fumes and vibrations.
