About This Role

You'll operate a variety of heavy equipment—primarily dump trucks, loaders, and backhoes—while handling maintenance tasks and completing service records under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent. Your days involve equipment inspections, routine preventive maintenance, safety compliance, and debris removal operations. This role demands flexibility; you'll respond to storm cleanup, declared emergencies, and natural disasters, which may require after-hours or weekend work depending on road conditions. You'll also complete training to supervise inmate crews and assist with their oversight as directed. This position is ideal for operators comfortable working in challenging conditions—extreme temperatures, dust, noise, and exposure to various environmental elements—and who take pride in keeping equipment road-ready. With 1-3 years of equipment operation experience and a valid Class B license minimum, you're positioned to grow in county infrastructure maintenance. If you don't yet have your CDL, Union County offers financial assistance to help you obtain it, making this an accessible entry point for drivers ready to advance their careers in equipment operations.
